a fish for adik...

when i saw Francien's (Bulldogmeis2) fish wall-hanging.. i remembered that i made something similar .... fish wall-hanging for adik

adik wants me to make a wall-hanging for her newly renovated dinning hall ... pattern??? it's all up to me :) .... i looked for a suitable pattern that close to their life ... since they have fish pond in their orchids garden (which i envied...!) and my bro. in-law also loves fishing ... so i tought it would be nice to make them this pattern ... fish rising by Anne Tuck in Fabrications magazine ....

the pattern was called reverse applique technique ...(it was 5 layers applique panel...)
for this pattern .. it was recommended to use hand-dyed cotton for background ...so that when the second layer was cut into... the contrasting area of the bottom fabric will expose ....

for adik wall-hanging ... i couldn't find a hand-dyed cotton that i like instead i used shading printed cotton...
the technique was fairly complex but i love the result.....
1. 1st. layer the whole piece of fabric (background)
2. placed the 2nd. layer where the channels were created...the cutting and the hemming should be done before applique it onto the background ....
3. may have to snip tiny seam allowance ...turn in narrow hem until the channels of the design are stitched...
4. then place all the fish shapes and blanket-stitch it...
5. basting and quilt it.....
lastly...adik framed it and i'm loving it.....
